The original City Park in Hobbs was built in 1957. The clients’ goal for this project was to provide significant updates to the City’s very first park and renew the park’s status as a recreational destination for the City. Other goals included enhancing the park area in ways consistent with recent developments in the immediate neighborhood, including the new Murray Elementary School adjacent to the park. The park was to become a focal point for the surrounding areas complete with a large pavilion and event space, sports courts, large turf areas, a splashpad, two large playgrounds, and a perimeter trail to provide recreation opportunities. Other amenities include public art space, sports courts, a food truck plaza, and picnic areas. The renovation enhanced the landscape and park aesthetics by providing prominent and diverse landscaped areas across the park including streetscapes, a central promenade with outdoor rooms and interpretative gardens that mimic the region’s southern plains ecosystem. The landscaped areas provide an excellent transition between the park and neighborhoods and to enhance it.
